The 1974 CCBC Essex Men's Soccer team captured the NJCAA national championship, the first national athletic title for CCBC for any team in any sport. A top ranked team for nearly the entire season, 22 talented student-athletes from diverse backgrounds came together 50 years ago to defeat Suffolk County Community College (Selden, N.Y) for the national title. During a weekend in
late November, 1974 at the CCBC Essex Stadium, the team won three tournament game culminating with a 2-0 championship game victory. The team finished with a 14-1-1 record with team members garnering four NJCAA All-American and 12 combined All-NJCAA Region XX and All-Maryland JUCO Conference awards. The program was led by late coaches, Ed Wren and Wayne H. Rodgers, and athletic director, Dr. Andrew F. McDonald.
